Accessibility

Our commitment
Tideglass aims to make its website usable by as wide a range of people as possible, including those using assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or browser zoom. We treat accessibility as an ongoing part of maintaining the site rather than a separate compliance task.
Conformance target
We work toward conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C. This is the standard most widely used by public-facing websites and a reasonable basis for accessible design.
Measures we have taken
The following practices are applied across the Tideglass site:
- Semantic HTML: page structure uses appropriate landmarks —
header, main, footer, nav— so that screen readers can navigate by region. Headings follow a logical order without skipping levels. - Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, the FAQ accordion, the cookie preference dialog) are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone. Focus order follows the visual order of the page.
- Colour contrast: text colour combinations across the site are chosen to meet or exceed a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their backgrounds, as required by WCAG 2.1 AA for normal text.
- Reduced motion: no animations run automatically on page load. Hover transitions are brief (under 0.4 seconds). Users with the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference set are not shown any motion-based effects. - Alternative text: content images carry descriptive
altattributes that describe the subject relevant to context. Decorative SVG elements are marked witharia-hidden="true". - Labelled forms: every form input has a visible label associated via the
for/idpair. Required fields are marked both visually and in the label text. Error states do not rely on colour alone. - Skip link: a "skip to main content" link is present at the top of each page and visible on keyboard focus.
- Accessible dialog: the cookie consent dialog uses the native
<dialog>element with appropriate focus management and an ESC-to-close handler.
Known limitations
Content images on this site are currently served from a third-party image service (Lorem Picsum) during development. The alt text is written by us, but the image subjects are illustrative rather than final. When the site is deployed with real photography, alt text will be reviewed and updated to match the actual images.
The Google Maps iframe embedded on the homepage is a third-party component. We can't fully control its internal accessibility behaviour and it may not be fully navigable by keyboard in all browsers. We include a text address as an alternative in the same section.
Feedback and reporting
If you encounter a part of the site that you find difficult to use, or if something doesn't work as expected with your assistive technology, please let us know. We take reports seriously and will try to respond and address the issue within a reasonable time.
